Police in southern New Mexico are investigating a pair of explosions that occurred at two churches on Sunday morning. No one was injured in the blasts and each left only minor structural damage.

An explosive device went off inside a mailbox at Calvary Baptist Church in Las Cruces just after 8 a.m. Thirty minutes later another device went off three miles away in a trash can near the entrance of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

The first explosion happened before the beginning of services, while the second happened during an ongoing mass. Parishioners at the second church were safely evacuated from the building. Numerous churches in Las Cruces cancelled services on Sunday as a precaution. Later that evening police said they were following several leads but hadn't determined a motive behind the explosions. The FBI and multiple other agencies are assisting in the investigation.
