The Bureau of Land Management said it will implement fire restrictions starting Thursday for BLM lands within the Colorado River District. BLM spokesperson Valerie Gohlke says that while western Arizona has not seen a lot of wildfire activity, the move is meant to be proactive.

"The environment is getting very dry because we haven’t had a lot of rain and so we have conditions that are appropriate for fire," Gohlke said.

The restrictions cover campfires or wood stoves outside developed campsites or picnic areas, smoking, welding and the use of fireworks. The Colorado River District covers roughly 5.4 million acres of public lands.
