Mexico has extradited an accused ringleader of the Sinaloa cartel to face charges in southern California.

Victor Cazares Gastelum faces conspiracy and money laundering charges in San Diego. Mexico extradited Cazares late last week, four years after his arrest. He was indicted after a 2007 Drug Enforcement Administration investigation in California’s fertile Imperial Valley.

Cazares is accused of trafficking more than 40 tons of cocaine into the U.S. He is the latest in a string of high-level extraditions of drug traffickers sent to the United States to face charges here.
