Lyft rideshare program users can now select Waymo self-driving vans. The autonomous vehicle rides are available in Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe and Mesa.

More than 1,000 riders have used Waymo One, a commercial service in the metro Phoenix area since it began nearly seven months ago.

The launch of Waymo’s partnership with Lyft was announced in May, and, as of Thursday morning, self-driving vans will now be available through the Lyft app.

According to Waymo CEO John Krafcik,  the collaboration “introduces the Waymo Driver to Lyft users, enabling them to take what for many will be their first ride in a self-driving vehicle.” 

The vans will have a safety driver behind the wheel if something were to go wrong during the ride.
