Part of downtown Phoenix was closed on July 1, 2019, after a fatal fire at an underground APS power vault.

An Arizona Public Services’ underground fire in Phoenix on Sunday night continues to affect the downtown area.

APS crews are working to restore electricity to four buildings that were still without power as of Tuesday afternoon. 

Spokeswoman Lily Quezada said the company expects three of the buildings to be restored by Wednesday evening. The Wells Fargo Plaza will remain closed until further notice.

“I don't have a time frame for when that permanent solution will be available, but they may have a temporary solution before them. The generator, for example, is one option; there may be others,” Quezada said.

The other three buildings are the Phoenix Municipal Building, the Maricopa County Administrative Building, and the Phoenix Convention Center South Building.

Maricopa County spokesman Fields Moseley said multiple offices within the administrative building are temporarily relocating to other locations.

“The County Attorney's Office has moved its staff over to the Luhrs Building or they're having people work from home. The Assessor's Office has moved to another location. The Treasurer's Office has moved two or three people over to 401 West Jefferson Street," Moseley said.

Moseley said people have been visiting the 301 building, seeing the signs and then walking a block to the current location.
