AZ universities propose no tuition hike for most in-state undergrads

February 24, 2012

Many students at the state’s three public universities would not see tuition increases, under proposals put forward Friday. From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie reports.

MARK BRODIE: In-state undergrads at ASU would pay the same tuition in the 2012-13 school year that they pay now. The university is asking the state Board of Regents for a 3 percent tuition hike for out-of-state students, and graduate students. Returning in-state undergrads at the U of A would also not see a tuition increase, although new students, out-of-state undergrads and all graduate students could also pay 3 percent more next school year. And, NAU is requesting the school’s tuition pledge be continued. That program guarantees undergrads on the Flagstaff campus that their tuition will stay the same for eight semesters. Officials there say under their proposal, 90 percent of current undergrads in Flagstaff would keep their current tuition rate. The Board of Regents is expected to vote on the proposals at its meeting in early April in Tucson.
