Phoenix Activist Group Reminds Immigrants Of Rights Ahead Of ICE Raids

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids to round up immigrants with outstanding deportation orders were planned for Sunday in several cities, but none here in Arizona.

Petra Falcon, immigrant rights activist and director of Promise Arizona, said despite Phoenix not being a target city for ICE sweeps, her group wants immigrants to know their rights if an officer knocks on their door in the future.

“You have every right to ask who they are. Do they have a warrant? If they want to show the warrant—the ICE officers—they can place it under the door. Maintain your silence. You have rights. Have a family plan. You hear all the time that parents are dragged away and what happens to the children,” she said.

Sixteen protesters of ICE raids were arrested in Phoenix Friday night after blocking traffic and light rail tracks.

According to Phoenix police spokeswoman Mercedes Fortune, two protesters were booked on suspicion of aggravated assault on a police officer.
