Arizona Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick has joined the growing chorus of House members seeking an impeachment of President Donald Trump, saying Congress has no choice but to open an impeachment inquiry.

“I have a responsibility as a congresswoman, former prosecutor and American citizen to stand up for the rule of law,” she said. “Following Mueller’s alarming report, it is our job as a Congress to conduct oversight and provide answers to the American people. I have come to the conclusion that the House of Representatives must open an impeachment inquiry on President Donald Trump.”

Kirkpatrick’s decision to support an impeachment inquiry against Trump came after reviewing the Mueller Report, speaking with constituents and legal scholars, and observing the White House repeatedly defy congressional subpoenas. She called for both sides of the aisle to hold the President accountable. 

“This should not be a partisan fight or debate about election strategy,” she said. “It’s about the rule of law.”

Kirkpatrick joins other Arizona Democrats Ruben Gallego, Raúl Grijalva and Greg Stanton in calling for impeachment. Tom O’Halleran is the only Arizona Democrat in Congress who hasn’t publicly called for impeachment. All four of Arizona’s Republican representatives remain opposed to opening an inquiry.
