Jury selection started Monday in the second retrial of a man charged with several murders at a Buddhist temple more than 20 years ago.

Johnathan Doody was 17 years old when he was accused of taking part in killing nine people, including six monks, at the Wat Promkunaram temple in the West Valley. He was found guilty in 1993 and sentenced to nearly 300 years in prison, but in 2011, an appeals court overturned his conviction.

The court found that investigators behaved improperly. Doody was put on trial again in August of this year. Last month, a judge declared a mistrial when jurors could not reach a verdict.

Doody is now being tried again. Jury selection began on Monday. Opening statements are set to begin Dec. 4.
