A man the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says wanted to head up the county’s Criminal Justice Information System has instead been indicted for hacking into the sheriff’s office computers.

Robert Rampy, the former Telecommunications Director for the sheriff’s office, is accused of computer tampering and identity theft, according to the sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Brandon Jones.

“It deals with him accessing our criminal justice system remotely, running several criminal history checks on several people,” Jones said.

He says the alleged wrongdoing started shortly after Rampy was not selected to head the Criminal Justice Information System.  He says it ended five months later, in early January of this year.
