A Dozen Attorneys Push For Montgomery To Sit On AZ Supreme Court

More than a dozen attorneys, including Attorney General Mark Brnovich, have submitted comments saying Montgomery should be the choice.
Montgomery has also secured endorsements from Maricopa County Assessor Paul Petersen and several staff members at the County Attorney's Office.
But some of his critics say Montgomery won’t treat LGBT people equally under the law. Analise Ortiz with ACLU Arizona said Montgomery’s bias was clear in the case of same-sex adoption.
"The Supreme Court explained that the fundamental right to marry includes the right to obtain the same governmental rights that a state makes available to heterosexual couples," Ortiz said. "And even though that was the law, Montgomery tried to say that legal marriage didn't affect adoption."
The ACLU of Arizona led a protest rally outside of his office on Thursday ahead of his interview with the Commission on Appellate Court Appointments.
