The Tempe Police Department is launching a “positive ticketing” campaign for pedestrians and cyclists, and those tickets are actually coupons to Circle K.

Detective Greg Bacon said officers will pass out free drink coupons to those who say and do the right thing when it comes to traffic laws, like a pedestrian using the crosswalk, instead of jaywalking.

“We’ll also be giving them out to our school resource officers to have conversations with the students in the schools, and so they will have some, and the ability to have those positive conversations with our teenagers and youth on traffic laws, bicycle laws and pedestrian laws," Bacon said.

Bacon said drivers should not expect to be pulled over as part of the campaign. He said it’s intended to educate people and reduce traffic fatalities. The department is partnering with Circle K to provide the rewards.
