Pipeline Break Calls For Water Restrictions At Grand Canyon
Download mp3 (829.08 KB)Grand Canyon National Park entered water conservation mode Friday due to a pipeline that broke on Thursday.
Spokesperson Lily Daniels says a pipeline break discovered Thursday is responsible.
“We’re discontinuing car and bus washing, no watering of lawns or plants, as well as reducing toilet flushing, reduction of shower times and turning water off while you’re brushing your teeth," said Daniels.
Daniels says the restrictions will be in place for at least four days.
The park is implementing water restrictions on the North and South Rims until staff can repair the break.
Visitor facilities will remain open, but drinking water at restaurants will only be served if customers request it.
On Tuesday, the North Rim’s Lodge entry road will be closed for most of the month to continue the second phase of a water utility improvement project.
