Governor Doug Ducey announced Monday that Arizona should keep using the national education standards known as Common Core. But he wants to see them reviewed and possibly replaced.

Ducey has been speaking against Common Core since he was running for governor, but hadn’t officially called for its repeal. And technically, he still hasn’t. Instead, in the press conference he told the state board to carefully look at the standards with input from teachers and parents.

"Begin by reviewing the English, language arts and mathematics standards in their entirety to ensure that our children are well served by the standards you develop with full transparency," Ducey said. "Standards that are Arizona’s standards."

Many Arizona Republican politicians have joined in the fight against Common Core, including Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas, who has called for the standards’ repeal.
