Hotel occupancy in Scottsdale remains strong. February had an 82 percent occupancy rate, about the same compared to last year.

One thing that has risen is the average price of a hotel room. Compared to February 2014, hotel room rates are up by almost 14 percent to an average of $240 a night.

“Smith Travel Research has basically said that while we may not be seeing a tremendous increase in occupancy, it’s likely that we’ll see this rate increase and so that is what we have encountered this year," said Megan Doyle with the Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. "It’s nice to see that our hotels here are bringing their rates back up and making us competitive with a lot of other destinations.”

The rise of hotel rates is a sign of the improving economy, Doyle said. Those rates were lowered during the slow economy and now are rebounding.
