The Arizona Department of Transportation has closed a portion of State Route 88 between Tortilla Flat and the Roosevelt Lake turnoff.

Crews inspected a 9 mile stretch of the road Monday where there is heavy damage from last week's storm.

Lanes leading up to the closure will remain open but restricted for travel.

"There are some areas that are coned off where we don't want folks driving along the shoulders," warned ADOT spokesperson Doug Nintzel.

The roads in the area are near the Woodbury Fire burn scar where the soil is particularly vulnerable to rain and runoff.

"The storms did quite a bit of damage and left debris on the roadway, that includes large rocks and boulders," said Nintzel, who added that the closure will remain until further notice.
