For many of us, the term forensics is familiar because of television dramas like "CSI" and its long list of spinoffs.

In those shows, forensics means going into the lab and using the latest technology to help uncover a missing piece of an investigation.

The field of forensic linguistics is similar, but has only been in broad use since the late 1960s. In October, a conference at Arizona State University brought experts from around the world to explain the concept and explore the latest developments.

To talk about this field, The Show talked with organizer of the conference, Elizabeth “Bootsy” Martinez.
