Broadway Road and Center Street in Mesa resumed normal traffic Friday afternoon after a 13-car train derailment Thursday evening blocked the roads.

Nik Rasheda, a Mesa police detective, says the accident happened when train cars went around a curve in the track.

“There’s a big 90-degree turn, and at some point in that process, several train carts flipped over onto their side. Union Pacific has been on scene. They’ve been flipping the carts back on to the track and being able to move them," Rasheda said Friday.

Rasheda says no one was injured in the incident and the cause is under investigation.
