Controvery Over Water Use For New Development Project In Benson

A proposed development in the city of Benson about 45 miles southeast of Tucson is generating some controversy over its projected water use.

A Phoenix-based developer wants to build a Tuscan-inspired project, including more than 28,000 homes on more than 12,000 acres. Brad Hamilton is city engineer and director of public works for Benson.

But some people are less optimistic about the project. Tricia Gerrodette is president of the Huachuca Audubon Society, but she spoke to us on her behalf, not the group’s.
