A new report says for many seniors the Affordable Care Act has provided additional health care services without few extra requirements.

Jon Bailey of the Center for Rural Affairs says most of the law’s provisions affecting seniors have been in effect since 2010. Provisions like the requirement to have health insurance don’t impact them, because they already have Medicare.

"Medicare meets that mandate, so they're set,” Bailey said. “They're covered. They don't have to worry about going on to the healthcare.gov website or any of the other state-based marketplaces, and so, they don't have to worry – as long as they're getting Medicare, they're set."  

Bailey adds that despite early warnings about the ACA's impact on Medicare Advantage plans, rather than declining, the number of seniors enrolling is actually greater than estimated. The study is on the Center for Rural Affairs' website.
