Mesa Reanimates Cemetery Tours Ahead Of Halloween

On Saturday, the Mesa Historical Museum is reviving its Mesa Cemetery Tour.
The exclusive tour will wind around the cemetery’s more famous residents like Mesa settler Daniel Webster Jones and Ernesto Miranda, whose legal case led to the establishment of “Miranda Rights.”
Leon Natker, the museum’s executive director, said that many people who died in the late 1800s are buried there, and the original site of the cemetery was moved.
"The current cemetery site came along later towards 1890, and all of the bodies were moved," Natker said. "And it's said that, if you're near the cemetery at the twilight hours, the ghosts of the people from the smallpox epidemic wander about because they kept re-burying them."
Tours begin at 8 a.m. and run every 15 minutes until about 9:30 a.m. Tickets also get you donuts, coffee and entrance into the Mesa Historical Museum.
