April 06, 2012

Former congressional aide Ron Barber is the leading fundraiser in the special election to fill the congressional seat of Gabrielle Giffords. Giffords resigned in January while recovering from injuries following an assassination attempt last year. KJZZ’s Al Macias reports.

AL MACIAS: The former congresswoman has endorsed Barber. He was also wounded in the Tucson shootings. He is the lone Democrat in the special election to fill the congressional seat. Federal election commission records show Barber has raised more than $500,000, twice as much money as the leading Republican candidate. Four Republicans will face off in a primary election later this month. The general election for the southern Arizona seat is June12. The winner will complete Giffords’ unfinished term in District 8, through the end of the year. Meanwhile because of redistricting, there will be another primary election in August and general election in November to determine the winner in the new congressional District 2.
