Though turkey prices have dropped, the cost of all the trimmings has brought the cost of an average Thanksgiving dinner up by 9% over last year, according to Julie Murphree with the Arizona Farm Bureau.

For they average family of 10, a traditional Thanksgiving meal will cost about $42.68 — or about $4.27 per person. Murphree blames the rising cost of side dishes and desserts for the overall increase.

"Your basic items, like the turkey, actually went down," Murfree said. "Cube stuffing, pumpkin pie mix, pie shells, sweet potatoes...year to year, these ten items, we always price."

Even though Arizonans will pay more than last year, the average cost is still lower than elsewhere in the United States.

"Even though we have gone up 9%, we’re still cheaper than the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Market Basket," Murphree said. "Theirs is actually $48.91."

Since the farm bureau doesn't include discount cards, coupons, or sales in its calculation, Murphree says the $42.68 estimate is higher than most people will actually pay.
