A switch to healthier foods is credited with a drop in obesity rates among kids enrolled in the WIC — or Women, Infants and Children — nutrition program.

A new study by the Centers for Disease Control found children in 41 states had lower obesity rates. Arizona saw one of the largest decreases: an almost 20% drop in obesity among 2- to 4-year-olds studied.

Joining The Show to provide insight is Maureen McCoy, a lecturer in the ASU School of Nutrition and Health Promotion. She’s also a nutrition consultant for Maricopa County Head Start. She explained the WIC program, how it works and the findings from the study.
