The Season of Giving may be coming to a close, but one organization is still in desperate need of donations. As people enjoy time off for the holidays, they often forget to donate blood.

Arizona is in the midst of the 10 toughest days of the year for maintaining the state’s blood supply.

Sue Thew is with Vitalant, formerly known as United Blood Services. She said there’s an urgent need for donors of all blood types, especially O-positive and O-negative.

“O negative can be substituted for 100% of the blood types when it comes to red blood cell transfusions," Thew said. "So that’s the most important blood type to have on the shelves for emergency situations.” 

Arizona’s largest blood drive is this Sunday at the Tempe Center for the Arts. Blood donors are welcome from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
