Arizona Public Service’s new CEO, Jeff Guldner, was back before utility regulators on Tuesday, and he made a promise that may surprise the company’s many critics.

Guldner assured regulators that neither APS nor its parent company, Pinnacle West, would participate in the election of any Corporation Commissioner directly or indirectly.

The company’s political spending has drawn heavy criticism and scrutiny from customers and officials alike.
