A new report from the state Department of Health Services shows, last year Arizonans legally consumed twice the amount of marijuana they did two years ago.

220,000 people have cards allowing them to legally purchase the drug.

The report is based on information state health officials get from the more than 100 legal dispensaries around the state.

The report does not contain any financial figures because that data from the state-regulated dispensaries is confidential.

But it does show that Arizonans consumed nearly 83 tons of medical marijuana last year.

Under a 2010 voter approved law, patients with certain medical conditions and a doctor's recommendation can get up to 2 1/2 ounces of marijuana every two weeks. Those conditions range from cancer and glaucoma to AIDS and PTSD. But the largest category of patients are those with chronic pain.
