Gov. Brewer gives State of the State address
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer used her annual State of the State address to call for lower taxes and less regulation in the next century. KJZZ’s Peter O’Dowd reports the economy was the focus of her speech.
PETER O'DOWD: Arizona is about to turn 100 in February. And the centennial birthday was a consistent theme throughout the governor’s speech. Brewer called for limited government, promised an end to a voter-approved one cent sales tax, and the symbolic gesture of reclaiming the state capitol complex. The state sold it to raise money during the last fiscal crisis.
JAN BREWER: I’m asking that you send me a bill by Statehood Day that allows me to buy back the Capitol Complex. Together, we can celebrate the burning of that mortgage.
PETER O'DOWD: Brewer says the state is getting healthier. It created 46,000 new jobs last year, and ranked seventh in the nation for job growth.
