The wreckage of the helicopter crash that killed nine people including former NBA star Kobe Bryant in Calabasas, California, last Sunday has been transported to Arizona.

The S-76 aircraft is currently under investigation by a full-go team consisting of more than 30 individuals who specialize in different factors such as maintenance, engines, airframe and meteorology.

Phoenix is the best fit for the investigation after the closing of one of the nation’s largest salvage yards in California.

“There is either going to be the follow on investigation of the NTSB, or the other possibility is litigation. Either way, you have to provide literally 24-hour security on the wreckage and the only place right now that has that sort of capability is in Phoenix," said Bill Waldock, a professor at Prescott’s Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

The investigation could take up to a year to complete as each inspection group performs its own set of observations.
