The Arizona legislative session will be starting soon, but one political expert doubts there will be any big surprises.

Mike O’Neil of O’Neil and Associates says Republicans, who hold a substantial legislative majority, seem to have most of what they want. But, he does not dispute that Child Protective Services has emerged as a lightning rod after reports of more than 6,000 cases not being investigated.

“They have to do some kind of a fix at CPS,” O’Neil said. “That has been such a complete, prominent disaster and it hits people where they understand it. They’ve got to do some kind of a fix with that.”

O’Neil believes it will take funding to repair the problems at CPS and he’s not sure the GOP is ready to put its money where its mouth is. The session begins Jan. 13.
