The Internal Revenue Service is looking for volunteers to improve customer service and satisfaction. The federal agency is looking for at least two volunteers from Arizona.

Typically, about 75 volunteers make up the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP). It’s a group of citizens across the U.S. and Puerto Rico that reach out to taxpayers to identify issues and concerns. Volunteers donate 2-to-300 hours a year. In 2019, the group reported 1,360 outreach events.

In a prepared statement, Bridget T. Roberts, the acting national taxpayer advocate, said, “The citizen volunteers who serve on the TAP hear from taxpayers and then bring their collective voice and recommendations to the IRS.”

The Treasury Department created the advisory committee in 2002 ago to review issues and present recommendations to the IRS. Since it formed, the group has submitted 2,039 recommendations. Every year, the TAP provides an annual report to the Treasury, the IRS Commissioner and the National Taxpayer Advocate.

Applications for members in Arizona, the District of Columbia and 19 other states are being accepted through March 30. The panel is also looking for people to serve as alternates in Arizona and many other states.
