Public Access To The Arizona Capitol Will Be Limited
Due to the coronavirus, top lawmakers say public access to the Arizona Capitol will be limited.
Effective Friday, the public will be barred from the House and Senate galleries.
In a letter to lawmakers and staff, House Speaker Rusty Bowers and Senate President Karen Fann also wrote that committee chairs should limit testimony in hearings — the one opportunity the public has to tell lawmakers how they feel about bills.
Instead of testifying in public, GOP leaders encouraged people to call or email lawmakers.
Field trips to the Capitol and visits from outside organizations will also be canceled effective Friday. And all legislators and staff are encouraged to avoid any in-person meetings.
There’s no timeline for how long the closures will stay in effect.
