Hobbs: Arizona Will Move Forward With Presidential Preference Election
In Ohio, the governor attempted to cancel the state’s presidential primary election on Tuesday.
And federal and state officials on Monday recommend people avoid gatherings of 10 or more people to help minimize the spread of the coronavirus.
Secretary of State Katie Hobbs said that won’t stop Arizona from hosting an election for the state’s preferred Democratic presidential nominee.
"My office has been in consultation with election officials across the state health experts and leaders from the Democratic Party who agree that the election should move forward tomorrow. This decision was not made lightly, and what it all comes down to is that we have no guarantee that there will be a safer time to hold this election in the near future," Hobbs said.
Hobbs and state health leaders said they’ll implement social distancing measures at polling places for voters who cast their ballot for Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden in person.
