Amid Coronavirus, How Do We Weigh Medical Privacy Vs. Public Safety?

As the coronavirus continues to spread, questions about privacy and ethics arise.

We’ve all heard Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert’s name come up as the NBA announced it would suspend games. Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson announced on social media that they had tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

But where does someone’s medical privacy come into play here? And how do we weigh that versus public safety? And what other medical ethics questions might arise as this pandemic continues?
