Phoenix Animal Shelter Hoping To Get Pets Into Homes Before Temporary Closure
Halo Animal Rescue, a Phoenix Valley animal shelter, is trying to adopt out dogs and cats in its shelter before temporarily closing to the public as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The nonprofit is waiving adoption fees for animals four months or older through Friday, said Heather Allen, the organization’s president and CEO. Halo is ending adoptions at its main shelter and its adoption center inside the Deer Valley PetSmart for an undetermined time starting Saturday.
“Right now, we feel it's important to do what we can to get the animals into homes and out of the shelter environment even if it means the loss of income from the adoption fees,” Allen said.
Halo adoption fees typically range between $0 to $800 for dogs and cats. Those fees help offset the cost of caring for the animals.
Reducing Halo’s animal population will also help keep staff safe, Allen said.
Pets are featured on Halo’s website and the nonprofit is still accepting donations including pet food and treats.
