A custodian at Yavapai Regional Medical Center (YRMC) in Prescott was arrested on suspicion of stealing close to $1,700 worth of personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies from the hospital.

Prescott police spokesperson Lt. John Bramblia says 49-year-old Keith Brown admitted to the thefts.

“He admitted to stealing items from the hospital over the last three weeks, to include gloves, hand sanitizer, surgical scrubs, washcloths, paper towels, masks, bleach cleaner, an automatic hand sanitizer machine and bleach cleaner," Bramblia said.

Officials are trying to determine if it's safe to return the stolen equipment to the hospital.

"We're currently working the Yavapai County Attorney's Office and YRMC regarding the return of those much-needed items to the hospital as soon as possible, if the items are deemed safe," Bramblia said.

Brown faces at least one count of felony theft and one count of fraud.
