Not too many years ago, the Phoenix Symphony was in dire financial straits. Musicians’ salaries were cut by nearly 20 percent. Some even wondered whether the symphony would survive.

Now, three years after Jim Ward became CEO, he said the organization is well in the black, with a multi-million dollar surplus.
