Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery is blasting efforts to follow Colorado’s lead and legalize recreational marijuana use.

“An effort to legalize marijuana in this state is gonna be opposed vigorously by me, not because of any personal philosophy, but because it’s a dumb idea," said Montgomery.

Montgomery said legalizing pot would severely damage the state’s communities and is usually proposed and supported by people who do not know the facts or have no interest in improving our quality of life. 

Phoenix Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego said this week he would propose legalization in the coming session of the Arizona legislature.
