Arizona Chamber President "thrilled" with Governor's executive order
The President and CEO of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry says he’s “absolutely thrilled” that Governor Jan Brewer has extended the regulatory review and moratorium for state agencies. From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie reports.
MARK BRODIE: When the governor first took office in 2009, she signed an executive order that stopped new rules from being implemented in many cases. Tuesday, she extended that through the end of 2014. Glenn Hamer, President and CEO of the Arizona Chamber says having a stable and sensible regulatory environment is important for job growth. He says Arizona has created a contrast with its neighbor to the west.
GLENN HAMER: I was in a Starbucks in California over the winter break. And, there was a sign in that Starbucks that was required by the state of California, basically saying that the cup of coffee that I was drinking could cause me health problems. When you go into a business in California, and you see that type of stupid sign, it sends a pretty strong signal to businesses that this is not the greatest place to conduct free enterprise.
BRODIE: Hamer says some regulations are necessary, and isn’t concerned about something important slipping through the cracks. He says businesses prefer what he calls “smart, efficient regulation.”
