Arizona Department of Health Services director Will Humble explains how conditions become eligible to be treated by medical marijuana and gives a rough timeline for the opening of dispensaries.

Humble says that before an ailment is added to the list of conditions treated by medical marijuana he requires solid research to prove marijuana alleviates symptoms. He says researchers at the University of Arizona looked at studies published for four petitioned conditions and made synopses. Humble says that based on these studies PTSD, migraine headaches, generalized anxiety, and depression won’t be added to the list of conditions treated by marijuana.

Humble says that ADHS is taking petitions this week for conditions, and petitioners can expect decisions around January. He says that on August 7 eligible dispensary applicants will get their registration certificates and after final inspection will receive licenses to operate, potentially opening by September.
