The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says an 84-year-old man and his 74-year-old wife are both doing well after getting lost overnight on a hike in the White Tanks Mountains, west of Phoenix.  Joaquin Enriquez is a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

“As they were trying to exit the park, it got dark,” Enriquez said. “When it gets dark out there, obviously they veered off track, which landed them in a canyon that they were not able to hike, at which time they hunkered down and called the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office for help.”

Enriquez says they had plenty of food and water but the woman fell as they were trying to hike out and suffered injuries to her leg and hand. He says the man was able to hike out but that because of her injuries and the rough terrain, his wife had to be hoisted out by helicopter.
