With a month to go before the end of the open enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act, a group of activists is attempting to provide help with the process around the state Saturday.

Members of the nonprofit coalition “Cover Arizona” will be educating people about the law at 23 locations in Maricopa, Pima, Yuma and Coconino counties.

Diane Brown of Arizona PIRG says they’ll be targeting the uninsured and underinsured who have yet to explore their healthcare options. And, she says among those they’ll be trying to reach are people who may have been told they don’t qualify for AHCCCS, Arizona’s version of Medicaid.

"Many individuals who previously had not qualified for AHCCCS, perhaps because they did not have a child, are now eligible and enrollment assisters are helping them to navigate that process," Brown said.

Brown said people attending the enrollment events should allow at least an hour for the process. They should bring identification and, if they’re working, a pay stub.

Brown says more than two-thirds of the Arizonans who have enrolled so far have qualified for financial help to bring down the cost of their monthly premiums.
