Mexican gray wolf to be spared, headed to Scottsdale
A Mexican gray wolf that had been targeted for death will be spared.
A Scottsdale wildlife sanctuary will take the alpha female that has been killing cattle on a ranch in New Mexico. Spokeswoman Linda Searles of Southwest Sanctuary says the wolf can be brought to her new home as soon as she's captured in New Mexico.
"She will go through quarantine when she first gets here, and after that she will be put in with another wolf, so she will have wolves all around her and she will have a wolf companion at some point. But she will be here for the rest of her life," she said.
Searles says the wolf's four pups will be raised by their father, since they will not be allowed to leave with their mother. The new wolf will be housed with 15 other Mexican gray wolves that are already at the sanctuary.
