Nearly half of Maricopa County votes early

August 28, 2012

Today may be election day, but many Maricopa County voters have already cast their ballot in the primary race. More than 45 percent of ballots are in from people who requested to vote early.

The night before Election Day, the Maricopa County elections department had already received upwards of 344,000 early ballots. About 65 percent of those were from Republican voters.

Early ballots must be turned in by 7 p.m. this evening. They can be dropped off at a polling location or at a County Recorder's office, and they must be signed. More than half of Maricopa County registered voters are listed on the permanent early voting list.
