The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has made 39 arrests after busts at three compassion clubs and three grow houses in Laveen and Phoenix. Eleven of the arrests came at compassion clubs, which Sheriff Joe Arpaio says are a lot different than licensed marijuana dispensaries.

“A lot of our detectives just can walk into these compassion clubs, just make the purchase, walk out, no questions asked,” Arpaio said.

The sheriff says deputies seized over 1,000 pounds of marijuana, several firearms, $230,000 in cash and an ATM machine stuffed with pot. Those arrested face drug and money laundering charges.
