Phoenix lags in household income, health insurance, preschool attendance
Data just released from the U.S. Census Bureaus shows that the median Phoenix income in 2011 was less than the national figure. KJZZ’s Al Macias reports the latest results from the American Community Survey.
Numbers from the census bureau show that the median Phoenix household earned just under $44,000 last year compared to the national figure of $50,500.
The numbers show that nearly 23 percent of Phoenix residents did not have health insurance compared to 15 percent nationally.
The annual ACS survey showed that about 27 percent of the preschool-age population in Phoenix was enrolled in school while the national average was about 47 percent.
One bit of good news, Phoenix residents paid about $56 less a month in rent and utilities than renters in the rest of the United States.
The American Community Survey samples a percentage of the population annually to provide updated information. The latest release covered the 25 largest cities in the country.
