The president of the state Senate said with the budget signed into law, he wants to make a push this week to finish the 2014 session. Sen. Andy Biggs said the week will be filled with its share of last-minute business.

“We are trying to just adjust our schedules working with the House, and we’re going to get together with the House and just see, you know how many bills left, how do you deal with those bills,” Biggs said.

Members of the House and Senate expect to consider more than 150 bills that have been working their way through the chambers since the session began in early January. Debates are expected to last into the evening in the early part of the week.

The House alone has scheduled votes on 44 bills on Tuesday. It is possible lawmakers could adjourn the session by Wednesday or Thursday, but it may extend into next week. In any case, they likely will have to return for a special session to create a new child welfare department.
