Work Begins To Complete Loop 303 Interchange In Goodyear

Construction is under way to complete the Loop 303 interchange with Interstate 10 in Goodyear, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Finishing the $83 million-project is a down payment for the future as plans for the Loop 303 are to eventually extend further into Goodyear, said ADOT spokesman Doug Nintzel.
“It’ll really come down to when the funding for any future extensions south of there become available, but in the short term the new ramps will provide connections between the freeways,” Nintzel said.
When the interchange is complete, the Loop 303 will go south from I-10 to Van Buren Street and give people living in the heart of Goodyear direct access to the freeway from Cotton Lane, said Luke Albert, a city traffic engineer.
“Right now they have to drive either a mile east to Sarival Avenue, or a mile west to Citrus Road to connect to I-10,” Albert said.
Citing decisions by the manufacturer Sub-Zero, Dick's Sporting Goods and Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) to locate along Goodyear’s Loop 303 corridor north of the I-10, Albert said officials believe finishing the interchange and extending the freeway further south will bring more chances for economic development.
In the meantime, drivers can expect fewer restrictions on I-10 during construction as parts of the southern ramps were built at the same time as the north part of the interchange, Nintzel said.
ADOT expects the project to take about two years.
