Valley Metro sees ridership records in October

November 20, 2012

More people took mass transit to get to their metro Phoenix destinations last month than in any month ever.  Valley Metro says ridership during October topped 7 million trips for the first time, with bus and light rail ridership increasing 10 percent, according to spokeswoman Susan Tierney.

"We saw weekday ridership exceed last year and in fact light rail's average Saturday ridership was the highest ever at more than 38,000 passengers," Tierney said.

Valley Metro says special events helped fuel the increase in ridership, with the largest daily light rail volume ever, on Thursday of ASU's home football game with the University of Oregon, as more than 65,000 riders used the system.
