The University of Arizona has announced plans for a Biomedical Partnership facility next to its Cancer Center, which is under construction in downtown Phoenix.

U of A President Ann Weaver Hart says the potential for breakthroughs on things like traumatic brain injuries is limitless.

“That could mean the difference between a life as a quadriplegic, not being able to see anymore, not being able to function in vocabulary, to a more full life where people can actually get back much of the capacity they had,” Weaver Heart said.

Pending a Board of Regents vote in June, ground would be broken on the $136 million building by the end of the year. It’s expected to create 500 construction jobs and 360 permanent, high-quality research jobs when it opens in about three years.
